The Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva, Ambassador Vincenzo Grassi, spoke today as part of the interactive dialogue on Afghanistan, during the 58th session of the Human Rights Council. He reaffirmed Italy’s concerns about the unacceptable restrictions imposed by the de facto Afghan authorities on women and girls, as well as the recent restrictions imposed on international NGOs, which severely undermine their ability to provide assistance and services to the Afghan population. The Ambassador also reiterated his concern about the continued use of the death penalty in the country, particularly through public executions.
