During the 71st session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Italy was appointed by acclamation as Chair of the Commission Bureau for the 2025–2027 term. Alongside Italy, Kazakhstan and Montenegro were appointed as Vice-Chairs.
The Commission’s new work cycle will focus on the theme “Climate action and resilient infrastructure for a sustainable future”, aiming to promote concrete policies and tools for strengthening infrastructure to support sustainability across countries in the region.
The appointment by acclamation reflects the unanimous recognition by the membership of Italy’s consistently constructive role within UNECE, as well as its strong commitment to multilateral cooperation and sustainable development.
