The Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Marie Sol Fulci, spoke today at the Interactive Dialogue on the analytical report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, on the current state of play of the mainstreaming of the human rights of women and girls in conflict and post-conflict situations, in the framework of the 48th session of the Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cItaly has always supported the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 since its adoption\u201d, she stated, recalling that Italy devotes significant efforts and resources to promoting the equal and meaningful participation of women in international peace and mediation processes, as well as in all decision-making processes.<\/p>\n
In this regard, it was highlighted that last year, on the 20th anniversary of the Resolution 1325, Italy adopted its fourth National Action Plan on Women Peace and Security (2020-2024) and allocated 3 million Euro for three years in support of its implementation. As the Deputy Permanent Representative underlined, Italy is \u201cone of the very few countries devoting public funding to the implementation of its National Action Plan\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Plan, was further explained, aims to strengthen and coordinate efforts to prevent and respond to sexual and gender-based violence in crisis contexts, to promote a gender perspective in peace operations, to foster women\u2019s empowerment and gender equality and to increase women\u2019s participation in all spheres of economic and social life.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn line with the recommendations made in the report – the Italian statement concluded – Italy is committed to place the promotion and protection of women and girls in conflict and post-conflict situations as well as the linkages with the Women, Peace and Security Agenda at the centre of the activities of the Human Rights Council\u201d.<\/p>\n
