In this regard, h<\/span><span class=\"s4\">e <\/span><span class=\"s4\">highlighted that Italy has <\/span><span class=\"s4\">joined the \u201cHuman Rights 75\u201d campaign and <\/span><span class=\"s4\">is<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> engaged in designing <\/span><span class=\"s4\">its<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> pledges to be announced in the High-Level Event next December, with the aim of reaffirming the principles of universality, interdependence and <\/span><span class=\"s4\">indivisibility of human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Upholding human rights is crucial to conflict and crises prevention, peace building and to advance the Sustainable Development Goals<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u201d, <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Amb<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. Grassi<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">stated, reiterating Italy\u2019s support<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">to <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the role of <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the Human Rights Council and the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">work of the OHCHR<\/span><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">Emphasis was placed on<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> those in the most vulnerable situations, including women and girls, children, religious and ethnic minorities, older persons, persons with disabilities. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Italy also confirmed that it w<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ill continue to stand up for gender equality, women empowerment and women\u2019s rights and to stress the importance of mobilizing young persons as key agents for change. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">Ambassador Grassi finally pointed out the importance of securing <\/span><span class=\"s4\">social and economic rights, including the rights to work, hous<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ing, food, water and sanitation, and recognized that<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s5\">t<\/span><span class=\"s5\">he full enjoyment of all human rights requires a vibrant civic space to allow all voices to be heard and leave no one behind<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\">Read the full statement here.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Vincenzo Grassi, took the floor today during the Interactive dialogue on the annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, in the framework of the 53rd session of the Human Rights Council.
