The Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Vincenzo Grassi, took the floor today during the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the right to education, Farida Shaheed, in the framework of the 53rd session of the Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe right to education is a key precondition for civil, cultural, social and economic growth of every country. It is essential for the personal development of each human being and for the full enjoyment of fundamental freedoms by every person<\/em>\u201d, Ambassador Grassi stated, highlighting that access to quality education must be inclusive and equitable.<\/p>\n In this regard, it was recalled that Italy\u2019s National Recovery and Resilience Plan includes measures aimed at promoting equal educational opportunities, reducing regional disparities in terms of infrastructures and educational attainment, including through digital technologies.<\/p>\n Ambassador Grassi further reaffirmed the commitment that Italy made at the \u201cUN Transforming Education Summit\u201d last year, to promoting equal, inclusive and sustainable economic and social development through a transformation of education. Italy\u2019s engagement and support to UNESCO\u2019s initiatives, as well as its endorsement of the \u201cSafe Schools Declaration\u201d to protect students, school staff and educational facilities in times of war, were also mentioned.<\/p>\n Italy finally remembered that a key component of the right to education is the human rights education and that, as member of the Platform for Human Rights Education and Training, it is committed to advancing the human rights education agenda, at national and international level, in line with the Sustainable Development Goal nr. 4.<\/p>\n
