\u201c<\/span><\/span>Listening to children, recognizing t<\/span><\/span>heir needs and protecting their rights: this is the commitment that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>today\u2019s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0World Children\u2019s Day urges us to keep<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>every day<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It remind<\/span><\/span>s us<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to acknowledge the value of their words, their experiences and their needs as an integral part of our community life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Children \u2013 both girls and boys \u2013 are the bearers of fundamental rights and millions are now\u00a0<\/span><\/span>being\u00a0<\/span><\/span>deprived of them. They are the victims of violence, trade and exploitation, and they are often reduced\u00a0<\/span><\/span>into\u00a0<\/span><\/span>slavery, persecuted and kidnapped in order to turn them into<\/span><\/span>child soldiers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Today,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>as<\/span><\/span>\u00a0conflicts multiply and humanitarian crises and ineq<\/span><\/span>ualities worsen, it is always the youngest who pay the highest price.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Also in our Country<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0there are persisting\u00a0<\/span><\/span>situations of abandonment and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>marginality,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and we cannot allow this to occur amidst\u00a0<\/span><\/span>deafening<\/span><\/span>\u00a0silence and indifference.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Too many children\u00a0<\/span><\/span>conceal<\/span><\/span>\u00a0t<\/span><\/span>heir frailty behind their rage<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>stubborn silence and a computer screen, in a context that observes them without however really understanding them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We need to make a<\/span><\/span>\u00a0concrete joint and daily commitment to restore the youths\u2019 trust, protect them and offer<\/span><\/span>\u00a0them<\/span><\/span>\u00a0concrete<\/span><\/span>\u00a0growth opportunities, thus making effective the constitutional principles that protect children and promote their human and social development.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The suffering of a child is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a<\/span><\/span>\u00a0defeat\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0entire community while every time<\/span><\/span>\u00a0that<\/span><\/span>\u00a0youths grow<\/span><\/span>\u00a0being<\/span><\/span>heeded, welcomed, and respected, the community renews itself and finds, in their voice, hope for the future.<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
