Italy at the Board of Directors of the ILO

The Permanent Representative of Italy to the International Organizations, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, has delivered today a statement on behalf of the Group of the Industrialized Market Economy Countries (IMEC) at the 340 Session of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organizazion.

Ambassador Cornado’s intervention supports the activities of the ILO International Training Centre-ITC of Turin and its reform, which aims to reinforce the leading role of the ITC in the field of training and innovation (link to the statement).

In particular, he highlighted the Centre’s commitment in coping with the strong limitations imposed by Covid-19 pandemic, since last March; this effort allowed the Centre to reconvert its training activities, also taking into due account the related budgetary and administrative constraints.

In the framework of the fruitful and intense joint engagement of the ILO and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation during the past months and considering the provisions on labour contained in the UN’s 2030 Agenda, Ambassador Cornado reiterated the need for a reform that aims to preserve the excellence of the International Centre of Turin and to broaden the funding of its future activities, also through additional donors.
