Migration Fund: Farnesina supports UNHCR's response to the Afghan crisis

As part of the national response to the Afghan crisis, a €1.5 million UNHCR project funded from the Migration Fund will begin on 15 September to prepare for the flow of Afghans who may find refuge in countries in the region.

The initiative will contribute to UNHCR's emergency response to ensure the organisation's preparedness to receive and assist Afghan refugees in the area: it will place basic necessities and hygiene kits for nearly 70,000 beneficiaries in the border areas of Afghanistan, with a specific focus on the needs of women.

This intervention reinforces Italy's response to the appeal of the United Nations High Commissioner for Afghan Refugees and adds a further element to the migration strategy for Afghanistan and the region that the Farnesina is defining, in implementation of the Italian plan to support the Afghan people.
