25 November: International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Italy repudiates all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls and reaffirms its commitment against an unacceptable phenomenon, a serious impediment to the achievement of gender equality and the effective enjoyment of women’s rights.

As a priority of Italian foreign policy action, the Farnesina pursues the goal of eliminating all violence against women both at the diplomatic level and through the instruments of development cooperation. This is witnessed by the numerous international campaigns that see Italy in the forefront – including those for the eradication of harmful practices against women and girls, including female genital mutilation and early and forced marriages.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2020, the Farnesina and its foreign network adhere to the awareness campaign “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!” promoted by UN Women, this year dedicated in particular to the increase in episodes of domestic violence due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown measures adopted by countries to curb the contagion.
