Italy is elected President of the WTO TRIMS Committee

Italy is elected as Chairwoman of the WTO Committee overseeing the application of the Agreement on Trade related Investment Measures (Trims). Ms Tiziana Zugliano, Trade Expert at the Permanent Mission and Official of the Ministry of Economic Development, is taking over from the previous Madam Chair, Carrie Wu of Taiwan. The election confirms the active role our country plays in the functioning of the Organization.

The Trims Committee is a subsidiary body of the Council for Trade in Goods, one of the main bodies of the WTO. It meets twice a year under the Chairmanship of a Member state. The Trims Agreement applies to trade in goods and spells out some inconsistent related-investment-related measures that can distort trade, such as local content or trade balancing requirements.
