The Italian Strategy for Virtual and Augmented Realities was presented by Italy’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Luigi Vignali, on the occasion of the third United Nations “Virtual Worlds Day”, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The Italian Strategy for Virtual and Augmented Realities supports the digitalization of the Public Administration and integrates new virtual interfaces into public services for citizens. Ambassador Vignali also recalled the immersive cultural experience made possible by Virtual Worlds, which open up museums, monuments and works of art to very broad audiences. In his remarks, he further underlined Italy’s commitment, alongside the United Nations, to the “AI Hub for Sustainable Development” initiative, aimed at promoting emerging technologies in Africa and strengthening local digital talent.
“Virtual Worlds” range from virtual and augmented reality to “digital twins”, “spatial intelligence” and the “citiverse”, and can contribute both to industrial planning and to the management of metropolises and urban environments, thanks to enhanced simulation capabilities and the resulting more informed decision-making process.
