At Cinéma Bio in Carouge, the Permanent Mission organized a screening of Climbing Iran, by director Francesca Borghetti, a documentary that tells the extraordinary story of Nasim Eshqi, an Iranian climber who challenges physical, social and cultural barriers, opening new climbing routes in Iran and the Alps and inspiring other women through sport, courage and determination.

In thanking the many participants in the initiative, Ambassador Vignali underlined in his welcoming remarks that the documentary offers “a valuable opportunity to reflect on the promotion, through sport, of the rights of women and girls, in terms of participation, equality and fundamental freedoms. These are issues at the heart of the work of the Human Rights Council, and the film provides a powerful metaphor in this regard.”

Italy thus reaffirms its strong commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, including through our country’s cultural production, which is able to effectively engage civil society and younger generations.
