The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, spoke today at the Fifth International Donors’ Conference for Syria, organised by the European Union and the United Nations.
He said that “once again we have to say out loud that the only way out of the Syrian crisis is a Syrian-led political solution, facilitated by the United Nations in line with resolution 2254. Without such a solution it would be difficult for the international community to support genuine reconstruction”.
The Minister went on to announce that “this year Italy will confirm its commitment of €45 million in aid for humanitarian and stabilisation projects in Syria and neighbouring countries. We will continue to work side by side with civil society and international organisations to provide assistance, protection, humanitarian rehabilitation and contribute to a real recovery”.
