The Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado, took part today in the interactive dialogue with the Indipendent Expert on Somalia, within the framework of the 39th session of the Human Rights Council.
In his statement, Ambassador Cornado underlined the progress in the human rights situation, notwithstanding the threat of terrorism and the dire humanitarian context.
Ambassador Cornado encouraged Somalia to adopt measures to further protect and promote the rights of women and children, to guarantee freedom of expression and to implement the moratorium on the death penalty and reiterated Italy’s support to the country’s efforts.
