Italy re-elected to the International Telecommunication Union Council

At the Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), underway from 29 October to 16 November in Dubai, Italy has been re-elected to sit on the ITU Council with 168 votes. After a close competition, our Country obtained the second-largest number of votes at global level, accounting for 95% of the voting Countries, and ranked first in Western Europe, greatly outperforming the result achieved in 2014.

The success of the candidacy of Italy, a founding member of the ITU, testifies to the contribution that our Country provides to the telecommunications sector through new information and communication technology. The re-election is the result of a capillary campaign carried out over the last few months through our overseas Diplomatic Network and is also attributable to the active and continuous cooperation between the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Today’s vote acknowledges the relevant and unrelenting commitment put into the radio communication sector and in regulating telecommunication systems.
