Deputy Minister Del Re in Geneva: Conference on Disarmament, Human Rights Council, Pledging Conference on the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen

During her mission to Geneva (February 25-26, 2019), the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Claudia Del Re, has participated to the high-level segment of the 40th session of the Human Rights Council. Its presence in Geneva has a special meaning in light of Italy’s entry, for the period 2019-2021, among the members of the Council: in his speech, Vice-Minister Del Re reiterated Italy’s support for the High Commissioner for Human Rights and its Office and the commitment to special procedures, Treaty Bodies and other mechanisms. In her statement she highlighted as well the attention of our country to the topics of women’s and girls’ rights, women’s empowerment, the fight against female genital mutilation, the death penalty moratorium, religious freedom, the fight against trafficking of human beings and the inclusion of civil society. The Vice Minister also took part in a high-level event on the death penalty.

On the same day, Deputy Minister Del Re also participated to the “High-Level Pledging Event” on the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. On this occasion, she announced a total contribution of € 5 million for humanitarian interventions in support of the Yemeni population.

To complete the intense program of the mission, bilateral meetings took place with numerous high representatives from other participating countries and with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer.
