On 26 November at WIPO, Italy took part in the celebration of the accession of the European Union to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement.
A panel discussion on the potential of geographical indications and the Lisbon system to stimulate economic development was attended by the European Commissioner for Agriculture Phil Hogan, WIPO DG Gurry and Ms. Bagal, who worked on the Cameroon’s accession to the Lisbon Agreement.
The panel was followed by a deposit ceremony and an exibition, where a number of European GI products, including wine and parmesan cheese from Italy, were displayed and offered.
The EU’s formal accession to the Geneva Act is an important step to expand the protection of Geographical Indications.
Italy attaches great value to the protection of IP and of Geographical Indications.
