Human Rights Council. Right to food: statement by Ambassador Cornado

In the framework of the 43rd ordinary session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado, Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations in Geneva, spoke today in the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur for the right to Hilal Elver food to express Italy’s deep disappointment for the reportprepared following its visit to our country.

Ambassador Cornado denounced the lack of objectivity of a report depicting an unrealistic image of Italy and its commitment towards the implementation of the right to food, as the report does not take into account all the information provided by the various Italian administrations involved in the visit of the Special Rapporteur.

“The report focuses on specific and limited situations relating to agro-food that have been unduly generalized and extended to the entire sector”.

The report, also, “does not underline everything that Italy does to help people in conditions of poverty or emergency, nor the commitment of our country in the fight against illegal hiring and illegality in the agro-food sector, or the positive impact of citizenship income, as an instrument of the anti-poverty strategy, on the right to food”.
