Italy’s statement at the Human Rights Council on the occasion of the Interactive Dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights on Belarus

In the framework of the current session of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations, Italy intervened today in the Interactive Dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, on the situation of human rights in Belarus.

Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado, Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations in Geneva, reiterated Italy’s condemnation of the heavy curtailing of the human rights and fundamental freedoms occurred in Belarus in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential elections.

“Italy renews the call on the Belarusian Authorities to follow the path of dialogue with opposition forces and stands in solidarity with those who peacefully seek to determine their own future through free and fair elections”, Ambassador Cornado said.
