The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expresses its deep satisfaction at the imminent arrival in Italy of the family of Mr. Munzir al-Nazzal and little Mustafa, the Syrian refugees portrayed in the photograph by Turkish artist Mehmet Aslan, the winner of the “Siena International Photo Award” 2021.
In the wake of the wave of solidarity raised in Italy, the Italian Embassy in Ankara, in close coordination with the Farnesina’s Directorate General for Migration Policies, took immediate action to trace the al-Nazzal family and to identify our Country’s appropriate reception programmes.
The al-Nazzal family will be hosted by a network of civil society actors coordinated by the Archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d’Elsa-Montalcino. Thanks to a fund raiser promoted by the organizers of the “Siena Awards Festival”, Mr. Munzir al-Nazzal and his son Mustafa will receive long-term care at the Prosthetic Centre in Vigorso di Budrio.
