Briefing dedicated to the preparations for the UNECE Ministerial Conference on Ageing

Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado spoke today at a briefing dedicated to the preparations for the UNECE Ministerial Conference on Ageing, to be held in Rome on 16 and 17 June.

The Conference, whose organization in Rome was strongly promoted by the Minister for Equal Opportunities and Family, Elena Bonetti, is another bright example of cooperation between Italy and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

In recalling that the protection of elder people is at the center of the UN action, all the more considering the dramatic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on this segment of the population, Ambassador Cornado stated that this Conference will gather together Governments, International Organizations and Universities in order to shape a common vision on the future of ageing policies, based on the creation of alliances between generations, and will contribute to the promotion of the human rights of older people.

The theme of the Conference will be “A sustainable world for all ages: joining forces for solidarity and equal opportunities throughout life”: a topic of outmost importance in this very crucial phase, for societies still fighting with the consequences of Covid-19, Ambassador Cornado stressed.
