Global Forum for Road Safety: Luciana Iorio elected Chair of the Forum

During the 85th session of the Global Forum for Road Safety, which took place from 19 to 23 September in Geneva, the delegates reelected Luciana Iorio of the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility as Chair of the Forum.

The Forum is a permanent intergovernmental body of the United Nations system that focuses on improving road safety and on the prevention of road accidents, in the context of the Second Decade of Action on Road Safety of the United Nations (2021-2030). Its primary function is to serve as guardian of the United Nations legal instruments aimed at harmonizing traffic rules, road signs and signals, road user behaviour, the characteristics of vehicles and infrastructure. UNECE also supports the development of innovative road safety awareness raising campaigns, including a thematic Film Festival.

The reelection of Luciana Iorio as Chair of the Forum, which meets twice a year, is a recognition of the results of our country in implementing road safety and promoting it internationally. On the opening day, the Director General of ANAS, Domenico Crocco, has also described the recent measures adopted by Italy based on the use of advanced technologies, including the technological monitoring of the physical state of infrastructures and the Smart Road project for the automated management of road mobility.
