In response to the aftermath of the violent earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, causing thousands of deaths and injuries, as well as the damage and destruction of infrastructure and buildings, the Italian Cooperation, at the proposal of Minister Tajani and Deputy Minister Cirielli, has arranged two emergency contributions worth 1.75 million euros to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Of these, €1 million will go to support the activities of the Turkish Red Crescent, while €750,000 will go to support the Syrian Red Crescent for assistance activities in the areas of first emergency and reception, sanitation and protection. This funding is in addition to the 1 million euros already allocated to the Syrian Red Crescent for first aid interventions.
Through these contributions, the Italian government intends to offer initial concrete help to the populations involved, tangibly demonstrating its closeness at this particularly difficult time.
