On the 4th of June, the Residence of the Italian Permanent Representative in Geneva hosted the annual celebration of the National Day of the Italian Republic. In front of a numerous and qualified representation of the Geneva diplomatic community and in the presence, among others, of the Director General of the International Organisation for Migration, Amy Pope, and the Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organisation, Celeste Saulo, the Permanent Representative of Italy to the OO.II., Amb. Vincenzo Grassi, the Permanent Representative to the Disarmament Conference, Amb. Leonardo Bencini, and the Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organisation, Gen. Luca Baione took the floor.
In his address, recalling President Mattarella’s recent address to the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Vincenzo Grassi emphasised in particular the full identity of values between the Republican Constitution and the United Nations Charter, both of which are inspired by principles of universal scope such as solidarity, respect for human rights and the rule of law, and the promotion of peace among Nations.
The participation of the Fanfare of the First Air Force Region Command made it possible to celebrate the Republic through the performance of the “Inno di Mameli” and the Ode to Joy, as well as other renowned pieces of our musical tradition (from Verdi to Morricone).
Last but not least, there was the much-appreciated tasting of Italian food and wine excellence, thanks to the generosity of numerous sponsors, who made the National Day of the Republic in Geneva a privileged stage for Italian culinary culture, declined in its rich and varied regional expressions.
