The Permanent Mission of Italy, in collaboration with the Permanent Observer of the Holy See and with the support of the United Nations Office at Geneva and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), is pleased to announce that on 17 January 2025, the Palais des Nations in Geneva (Room XIX) will host the first screening in Switzerland of the film ‘Cabrini’, dedicated to the figure of Mother Francesca Cabrini, foundress of the religious congregation ‘‘The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus’.
Mother Francesca devoted herself to assisting Italian migrants in the United States of America between the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, thus becoming recognized, the first American citizen, ‘Saint’ by the Catholic Church in 1946 and ‘Patroness of Emigrants’ in 1950, and representing an exceptional example of faith and modernity and a long-lasting source of inspiration in her commitment to the most vulnerable.
The screening is open to the public and will take place in the presence of the lead actress, Cristiana Dell’Anna. It will be preceded by a short debate on key topics for today’s Geneva multilateralism, such as the role of women in the public sphere, assistance to the most vulnerable persons such as refugees, migrants and minors, health, education and decent work.
