The Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado, met today with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry.
The meeting provided with an opportunity to highlight the excellent coopertion between Italy and WIPO and the contribution of our country to the systems administered by the Organizations and to technical and political committees whose Italy is a member, thanks to the coordination among various Italian administrations.
Director General Gurry highlighted the important role of Italy in the field of international protection of intellectual property, which – the Italian Permanent Representative said – should be promoted and developed as a whole, granting equali dignity to the international protection of patents, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications.
In this regard, Ambassador Cornado – while thanking Director Gurry for the excellent cooperation and for the leadership offered in the past few years – expressed his hope that the future entry into force of the Geneva Act to the Lisbon Treaty on the international protection of geograhical indications may be accompanied by appropriate actions in favor of strengthening the Lisbon’s registry and the promotion and information activities related to the Lisbon Union.
