The Permanent Representative of Italy to the UN and other international organizations, Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado, met today with the Executive Director of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tubercolosis and Malaria Peter Sands.
The meeting was an important occasion to explore ways to further improve the cooperation between Italy and the Global Fund. Italy is among the founding members as well as the major donors of the Fund. Ambassador Cornado recalled the Italian contribution to the Global Fund and highlighted the importance of the collaboration with other actors in the field of global health such as GAVI and WHO
Director Sands expressed appreciation for the very relevant support that Italy gives to the Global Fund and stressed that the effort needs to be continued in view of the huge task that is still to be performed by the Fund in spite of the many successes registered.
