The Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations in Geneva, Amb. Gian Lorenzo Cornado, intervened today at the annual full day meeting on the rights of the Child, during the 40th Session of the Human Rights Council. The theme of the meeting was the empowerment of children with disabilities for the enjoyment of their human rights, including through inclusive education. Ambassador Cornado highlighted that the Italian legislation foresees that the exercise of the right to education cannot be prevented by learning difficulties or difficulties deriving from disabilities and that Italy, back in the 70s, decided to adopt an inclusive education model, in order to integrate and include students with disabilities in the education system. He also mentioned several school projects aimed at school inclusion.
