Consortium of Italian companies signs contract for the renovation of the Palais des Nations buildings in Geneva. Satisfaction of the Permanent Representation of Italy in Geneva

“We welcome the signing of the contract between the Italian consortium of companies led by the CMB of Carpi and the United Nations Office in Geneva (ONUG) for the renovation of the buildings of the historic Palais des Nations” commented Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado, Permanent Representative of Italy to International Organizations in Geneva. The Italian joint venture, led by the CMB of Carpi and made up of CSC Imprese Costruzioni, the Salini Impregilo Group and Italiana Costruzioni, was the winner of the tender for phase 2 of the “Strategic Heritage Plan” project, which envisages the renovation of the buildings that make up the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.

The Italian offer was appreciated for the balanced combination of experience, flexibility and competitiveness. A particular emphasis in the elaboration of the project was put by ONUG in combining innovation, functionality and protection of the important historical heritage of the complex, born after a competition announced in 1927 to host the headquarters of the League of Nations, whose realization was entrusted to a committee of five architects, including the Italian Carlo Broggi, a well-known exponent of the rationalist current.

The tranche of the contracted works foresees, in particular, the renovation of Palaces A, B, C, D, S and the plant room of building E for a total value of over 240 million Euros.

“It is a confirmation of the competitiveness of our companies abroad, capable of forming a team and interfacing in a profitable way with the system of national and international institutions”, added Cornado: “the hope is that this development can determine an ever greater interest on the part of Italian entrepreneurs to participate in future tenders, in a context such as that of Geneva, which is experiencing a phase of strong dynamism ”.
