Speaking at the 12th call of the Ministerial Coordination Group on #COVID19 with Brazil, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Morocco and the United Kingdom.
We discussed our domestic responses to Covid-19 since we are all experiencing a second wave of the virus, and common strategies to be adopted.
In the past two weeks, the trend of contagion in Italy has been slowly, but steadily declining showing that our measures, although demanding in terms of personal limitations and economic impact, are being effective.
Our approach is always based on scientific assessments and on the principle of prevention; we keep on working to protect our citizen’s health and to support our economy.
As Italy started its Presidency of the #G20 on December 1st, we intend to face this commitment with great ambition and determination. Effective multilateralism will be crucial to promote global health as a global public good as well as to foster an inclusive and sustainable recovery. We cannot waste the opportunity to “build back better” from this crisis.
To build a safer and more sustainable world requires rebalancing the relationship between humans and nature. This means having social, environmental and economic sustainability issues at the heart of an Italian Presidency that will act with a view to the #2030Agenda and the #ParisAgreement.
As one of the main promoters of a multilateral and multi-dimensional response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Italy called since the outset of the pandemic for an international alliance focused mainly on vaccines’ research and distribution.
I believe there is a light at the end of each tunnel, but the way out is through, and we have a duty to walk out of it by displaying courage, ambition, and determination.
