First Italian National Space Day

December 16, 2021. Today is the first First National Space Day, in memory of the launch of the first Italian satellite, San Marco 1, which took place on December 15, 1964, and which allowed Italy to be among the very first countries in the world to exceed the earth’s atmosphere. Since then, Italy has obtaines many space-firsts/records and has become a major player on the international scene. Space is close to citizens and to our daily life more than one might imagine. Science and technology applied to space contribute to the improvement of the human condition and the sector offers returns in terms of economic growth, well-being, sustainable development, environmental protection and international prestige of our country.
