From December 2 to 4, 2021, the seventh edition of the Rome MED – Mediterranean Dialogues Conference, promoted since 2015 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ISPI, will take place in Rome in a hybrid mode – with both physical and virtual participation and a live streaming broadcast on the web platform.
The official opening is scheduled on Friday, December 3 with the speech in presence of Mario Draghi, President of the Council of Ministers, Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Giampiero Massolo, ISPI President. The MED-Dialogues will be closed on Saturday December 4th by Minister Luigi Di Maio. A preview is held on December 2 with a series of international seminars, the Med-Fora.

MED Dialogues 2021 intends, in an era of pandemic and political and economic transition, to develop “a positive agenda” for the Mediterranean, starting again from multilateralism as a strategy for conflict resolution. Among the strategic issues at the center of the debate the main security challenges, innovative policies for the management of migration flows, the fate of the younger generations after the pandemic, the main actions to accelerate the transition to a green and sustainable economy, the complex problems posed by the climate emergency and the revival of the Middle East peace process. It will be an opportunity to discuss how to respond cooperatively to the widespread need for security in a complex and multifaceted region, and to the requirements of countering the pandemic and initiating a sustainable, resilient and inclusive recovery for the benefit of the entire region. The future of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, the role of NATO and the strategies of the European Union and the United States for the area will also be discussed.
Finally, the Med Fora of December 2 will explore strategic issues for the area such as the role of young people and women and their contribution to social and economic growth, the economic weight of infrastructure, the complexity of the migration issue, the strategic role of cyber security, and the contribution of civil society in Mediterranean societies.
MED Dialogues has become a year-long initiative: in order to strengthen the contribution of ideas and proposals, in the past months thirty meetings have been organized in digital mode with international personalities of the highest level to discuss the reality of key countries in the area.
