On Saturday, October 7, 2023, the Permanent Representative of Italy in Geneva, Amb. Vincenzo Grassi and the Deputy Permanent Representative, Stefano Pisotti, accompanied the Minister of University and Research, Sen. Anna Maria Bernini, to the inauguration ceremony of the “CERN Science Gateway,” the new exhibition space promoted by Director General Fabiola Gianotti, designed by Arch. Renzo Piano, mainly funded by the Stellantis Foundation and built by Italian companies.
The ribbon cutting of the “Science gateway” was preceded by a ceremony in the presence of delegations from CERN member and observer countries and other guests, including former Italian Prime Ministers Mario Monti and Enrico Letta, inside the new auditorium named for Sergio Marchionne, with speeches by, among others, Director General Gianotti, Arch. Renzo Piano, and Stellantis Group President John Elkann.
Minister Bernini spoke during the ministerial-level panel discussion, highlighting the important Italian contribution to CERN in general, and to the “Science Gateway” in terms of ideas, expertise, funding and implementation.
