Italy’s pledges on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

HR75 Pledge

In the framework of the High-level Event organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Vincenzo Grassi, announced today during the “Pledging Session” Italy’s commitments to advance human rights protection.

While confirming its efforts to promote and protect human rights both at national and international levels, Italy pledged to: a) fully implement the national regulations on disability, including through a new and innovative definition of disability, in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; b) strengthen the system of national voluntary mechanisms aimed at reducing the gender gap; c) enhance the participation of children in relevant decision-making processes.

Furthermore, Italy confirmed its support to the OHCHR, also through financial contributions, in particular to the “Human Rights Advisers Programme” which contributes to placing human rights at the centre of the activities of the United Nations.
