The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, visits CERN

CERN PdC 7mar25

On Friday 7 March 2025, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, visited CERN in Geneva.

President Meloni, accompanied by Director-General Gianotti, met some of the most important Italian scientists who work at the centre and visited the ATLAS detector, one of the largest and most complex scientific instruments ever built to explore the universe, as well as the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) tunnel, the world’s most powerful particle accelerator. Lastly, President Meloni visited the Science Gateway, the science education and outreach centre designed by Renzo Piano.

“It was an honour for me to visit CERN – said President Meloni -, one of the places that best demonstrates the leading role Italy has always played in research, as well as the key importance of international scientific cooperation in addressing the major challenges of our time. Italy has contributed significantly to CERN’s history and this is a source of great pride for us, but also carries special responsibility. Italy is one of the founding states, it is the fourth biggest contributor and our 3,200 researchers and scientists form the largest community at the centre. CERN has a glorious history and an equally ambitious future ahead of it, and our nation will continue to do its part to support the centre’s projects and thus achieve new milestones”.
