Ms. Alingue’ also called for a strengthening of bilateral relations with Italy, both to mitigate the consequences of the humanitarian crisis in Eastern Chad, caused by the civil conflict underway in Sudan since last April, and to define new political and economic cooperation initiatives of mutual interest, in the context of the political transition ongoing in Chad since 2021, which entails the holding of a constitutional referendum and presidential elections in 2024.
Ambassador Grassi indicated that the Italian Presidency of the G7 in 2024 and the Italy-Africa Conference, scheduled for next January, will serve as a springboard to promote Italy’s commitment towards the Sahel countries, raising awareness among the international community on the definition of an equal partnership to address the issues of economic development, climate change mitigation and orderly and sustainable management of migratory flows.
