“The ongoing digital and green transitions entail to increasingly invest in people and skills. This means strengthening our commitment and investment in training systems, thus providing workers with adequate levels of skills in all sectors throughout their lives.” This was stated by the Minister of Labour and Social Policies, Ms Marina Calderone, speaking at the UN headquarters in Geneva this afternoon at the Plenary Assembly of the International Labor Organization (ILO). “Adapting training systems” she added, “also means making them more inclusive, usable, accessible and adjustable with respect to the needs of all. This is essential to achieve the social and labour inclusion of people, starting with the most vulnerable groups for whom we must remove obstacles and barriers to full realization in the field of work”.

Minister Calderone’s speech also dealt with the challenge of demographic change, “which will have growing impacts on our societies, economies and welfare systems. Challenges on which the Global Coalition for Social Justice, promoted by ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo, to which Italy confirms its support, takes on particular value.”

Minister Calderone then recalled the pillars of the G7 Laboor chaired by Italy: artificial intelligence, skills and active ageing.
